Procyon [proˈkyɔn], the brightest star in the constellation Canis Minor (the Little Dog), is one of the most luminous celestial bodies and one of the closest neighbors to our Sun. Located just 11.4 light-years away, this remarkable star surpasses the Sun in several ways. Its mass is 1.5 times greater than that of the Sun, and it is nearly twice its size. Additionally, Procyon’s luminosity is 7.7 times greater than that of the Sun.

In ancient Egypt, its appearance in the night sky was considered a significant omen. Its rising served as an early warning signal for potential dangers and forthcoming changes.
